Revision as of 08:10, 18 October 2026

Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in different ways.

Clarification statement: Emphasis is on systems of information transfer.

Assessment boundary: Assessment does not include the mechanisms by which the brain stores and recalls information or the mechanisms of how sensory receptors function.

Performance Level Descriptions

Every Grade 5 Science Test question on 4-LS1-2 is written to match one of the performance level descriptions (PLDs) below.

Level 1: Use a model to identify one type of information, from those given, that animals receive through a sense or identify one way animals respond to information, from those given. Spring 2024 Question 4
Level 2: Use a model to identify one type of information animals receive through their senses, process the information in their brains, and identify how they respond to this information. Spring 2024 Question 2, Spring 2024 Question 3
Level 3: Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brains, and respond to information in different ways. Spring 2024 Question 1
Level 4: Develop a system model to describe the way in which animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brains, and respond to information in different ways.
