Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred by electric currents.
Clarification statement: Emphasis should be on arrangements of circuit components in series and parallel circuits.
Assessment boundary: Assessment will be limited to qualitative analysis and reasoning.
Note: this is a NYSED-specific performance expectation that is different from the Next Generation Science Standards.
Performance Level Descriptions
PLDs communicate the knowledge and skills expected of students to demonstrate proficiency in each Learning Standard. NYS assessments classify student performance into one of four levels.
Resources
Examples and discussion of resources for the learning, teaching, and assessment of MS-PS3-6.

Assessment
What assessment of MS-PS3-6 might look like on a NY state exam.

NGSS Dimensions
Performance expectation MS-PS3-6 was developed using the following elements from the NRC document A Framework for K-12 Science Education:
- Planning and Carrying Out Investigations
- Collect data to produce data to serve as the bases for evidence to answer scientific questions or test design solutions under a range of conditions.
- PS3.B: Conservation of Energy and Energy Transfer
- (NYSED) An electric circuit is a closed path in which an electric current can exist.
- Energy and Matter
- The transfer of energy can be tracked as energy flows through a designed or natural system.
