Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
Performance Level Descriptions
PLDs communicate the knowledge and skills expected of students to demonstrate proficiency in each Learning Standard. NYS assessments classify student performance into one of four levels.
Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem and defend the best design solution based on the criteria and constraints.
Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
Evaluate a design solution using a systematic process based on whether it meets the criteria and/or constraints of the problem.
Identify a design solution, from those provided, that best meets the criteria and/or constraints for a given problem.
Resources
Examples and discussion of resources for the learning, teaching, and assessment of MS-ETS1-2.

Assessment
What assessment of MS-ETS1-2 might look like on a NY state exam.
NGSS Dimensions
Performance expectation MS-ETS1-2 was developed using the following elements from the NRC document A Framework for K-12 Science Education:
Science and Engineering Practices
- Engaging in Argument from Evidence
- Evaluate competing design solutions based on jointly developed and agreed-upon design criteria.
Disciplinary Core Ideas
- ETS1.B: Developing Possible Solutions
- There are systematic processes for evaluating solutions with respect to how well they meet the criteria and constraints of a problem.
Crosscutting Concepts
- There are no Crosscutting Concepts linked to this standard.
