Latest revision as of 09:44, 18 October 2026

Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in different ways.

Clarification statement: Emphasis is on systems of information transfer.

Assessment boundary: Assessment does not include the mechanisms by which the brain stores and recalls information or the mechanisms of how sensory receptors function.

Performance Level Descriptions

Every Grade 5 Science Test question on 4-LS1-2 is written to match one of the performance level descriptions (PLDs) below.

Level 1: Use a model to identify one type of information, from those given, that animals receive through a sense or identify one way animals respond to information, from those given. Spring 2024 · Q4
Level 2: Use a model to identify one type of information animals receive through their senses, process the information in their brains, and identify how they respond to this information. Spring 2024 · Q2 Spring 2024 · Q3
Level 3: Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brains, and respond to information in different ways. Spring 2024 · Q1
Level 4: Develop a system model to describe the way in which animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brains, and respond to information in different ways.
