Performance Level Descriptions
Every Grade 5 Science Test question on 3-5-ETS1-2 is written to match one of the performance level descriptions (PLDs) below.
Level 1: Identify the best possible solution to a problem, from those provided, based on how well the solution is likely to meet the given criteria and constraints of the problem. Spring 2025 Question 15
Level 2: Compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each solution is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem. Spring 2026 Question 17, Spring 2024 Question 8
Level 3: Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each solution is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
Level 4: Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem, based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem, and make a claim about which solution best solves the problem based on science and engineering principles.
