4-PS3-3 | Changes in Energy · NYS standard · Grade 5 test questions

From NY Science Standards Wiki
Revision as of 07:10, 18 October 2026 by Conrad (talk | contribs) (PLD table: list all released questions at each level, matching the questions-by-performance-level pages)

Ask questions and predict outcomes about the changes in energy that occur when objects collide.

Clarification statement: Emphasis is on the change in the energy due to the change in speed, not on the forces, as objects interact.

Assessment boundary: Assessment does not include quantitative measurements of energy.

Performance Level Descriptions

Every Grade 5 Science Test question on 4-PS3-3 is written to match one of the performance level descriptions (PLDs) below.

Level 1: Identify the question, from those given, that predicts an outcome about the changes in energy that occur when objects collide.
Level 2: From a given question, predict an outcome about the changes in energy that occur when objects collide. Spring 2026 Question 16, Spring 2024 Question 9
Level 3: Ask questions and predict outcomes about the changes in energy that occur when objects collide.
Level 4: Ask questions, make predictions about the outcomes, and conduct an investigation about the relative changes in energy that occur when objects collide.
