The Selected Metric Prefixes table from the Reference Tables for Physical Science: Chemistry (2025 Edition) gives the four prefixes used on the exam with their symbols and factors. It is needed whenever a question's quantities and the equation's units do not match: nanometer wavelengths on The Electromagnetic Spectrum (HS-PS4-4), kilogram masses and kilojoule energies in heat calculations (HS-PS3-1), milliliter volumes in molarity calculations (HS-PS1-10) and kilopascal pressures (HS-PS1-9). | The Selected Metric Prefixes table from the Reference Tables for Physical Science: Chemistry (2025 Edition) gives the four prefixes used on the exam with their symbols and factors.
What the prefixes table shows
A prefix multiplies the unit it is attached to by the factor in the table: 1 kg = 103 g, 1 mL = 10−3 L, 1 μg = 10−6 g, 1 nm = 10−9 m. The 2011 edition's Table C also listed deci-, centi- and pico-; the 2025 edition keeps only these four.
Regents Exam Questions
Released Regents questions that cannot be answered without this table, listed by exam. Each link opens the question with its answer key; the standard is the one the question assesses.
